Responsibilities
- Assisting with blood collection procedures under the guidance of experienced professionals.
- Participating in the processing and testing of donated blood to ensure its safety and quality.
- Learning and applying standard operating procedures and protocols related to blood banking and laboratory processes.
- Contributing to the efficient management and organization of blood inventory.
- Assisting in the coordination of blood drives and public awareness campaigns.
- Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to ensure smooth operations and effective service delivery.
- Maintaining accurate records and documentation related to blood donations and laboratory activities.
- Participating in training sessions, workshops, and educational programs to enhance professional growth and knowledge in the field.
- Adhering to strict ethical and safety guidelines to ensure the well-being of donors and staff members.
- Undertaking any additional tasks or projects as assigned by the internship program supervisors.
Qualifications
- Must be a South African citizen.
- Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a relevant field of study such as Medical Technology, Biomedical Sciences, Nursing, or a related discipline.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Attention to detail and the ability to follow instructions accurately.
- Basic computer literacy.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends and public holidays, as required.
- A passion for serving the community and a commitment to the values and mission of SANBS.
